Favorite Bertie Higgins Song and Why
Mine is probably "Beneath the Island Light" from Pirates and Poets . I'm a huge cat stevens fan and this song reminds me of some of Cat's greatest works, and Bertie sounds so awesome and alive in this song. I wish he would do it at a live show sometime.
what about you?

Best Bertie Songs....
Being a big Humphrey Bogart fan, I naturally love the songs associated with him.
'Key Largo','Casablanca', 'Tokyo Joe' et al. One of my other favourites though is 'Pirates and poets' as I think the line about 'The Buccaneer and Shakespeare inside of me' has a Bogart appeal too. At the end of 'The Maltese Falcon' Bogart quotes or misquotes a line from 'The Tempest' when he says.. 'The stuff that dreams are made of...' Maybe Bertie should write a song using that line!

You mean I have to pick just one? Oh lord will that be hard You'll have to give me some time to read the CD song lists. Then I'll have to listen to them and after all that "hard work" I'll get back to. So far Bertie hasn't done a bad song yet.

Favorite Song
My all time favorite song by Bertie or anyone is "The Heart is the Hunter". This song grabbed me in 1982 when his first album came out and I have loved it ever since. The fact that he sang it for me, in person, at a concert last year, makes it even more special. I love all of his work, whether he wrote them or covered other peoples but my favorite new one is The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, from the new Captiva Album. Also Cowboys of the Carribbean is a hoot and I get a laugh every time I hear it. He just gets better with time.

I have been a fan since I lived in Florida in the 70's. I am so glad to see that there is a fan club devoted to him. His music hits my heart and grows to want more. I will indeed go on a Bertie Higgins Cruise when it is available. {Please let me know when and where} I will be there to support and love Bertie

favorite....of all time
Key Largo. Everytime I hear it it takes my breath away. It takes me away to the place, the who, where I experienced that poignant, sweet sadness that I would never trade for anything. The depth of that feeling means one has lived................. M-m-m-m-m- and those chocolate brown eyes, yummy.

What a wonderful gift for your sister!! Love takes us on a such mysterious journey of feelings and experience. Most of us have longed for the lost and I don't know if we can ever "play it again"?

To Floridian regarding Key Largo
You forgot to tell the rest of the story about your sister that she broke Berties heart when she left him. He's been raising his 2 boys and the heartbreak he suffered is very evident in the songs he wrote later. Some are really hard to listen to. He is a great person & I feel so sorry that he had to go thru this. But he has said that what you live thru gives you something to write about. I know they are friends and wish them well in the future. It seems they have great kids.

Re: Favorite Bertie Higgins Song and Why
Ok, I was not able to pick just 1 song. So shoot me with a garden hose. But I was able to narrowed mine down to 2 songs. Here they are.
1--Breath of God
2--Pirates and Poets
I can post all of my fav's if you want. But it's a very long list.

Key Largo
Key Largo is one of my favorite songs - and I had no idea until recently who it was by. I was probably 9 when it was released but it always resonated with me. I love the imagry that this (and all of Bertie's songs) conjures up like the invocation of 'Bogey and Bacall'. I appreciate the incorporation of the language from Casablanca and it really just has a truly wonderfully timeless romantic appeal. I also recently came across 'Casablanca' and instantly fell in love. Can't wait to acclamate myself to more of Bertie's music!
Does anyone know if he has plans to visit New England or the Northeast any time soon?

From what I've heard him say. He has no plans on touring nor does he have any shows here in the USA. He's going to China in November. Then he starts a movie in January of 2010.

Too bad there isn't some way we could prevail on him to do a mini tour. I would think that the local casinos would be an ideal setting for him.

I agree with you. There has to be some way to get him to play some where where we all could go to see him. I'm just not sure where that is.

I'm new to this group but is there anyone here who is in touch with him? I understand it's a huge undertaking to put together a show - let alone a tour. Maybe we can all (a few hundred of us or so..) agree to meet him in FLA.? That's a modest request no????

concerts
I surely do agree. I would sure go & take my whole family. That would fill up a whole row. But he knows that. So, I don't know where his mind is on this subject. He keeps telling me he is "working on concerts & will let me know" but so far no info Didn't mention same on the radio show he was on either. So, anybody's guess is as good as mine. It's been nearly 18 monhs since we have seen him & we feel like we are suffering withdrawel. lol.

Is there an e-mail address or contact info for him? I'd love to describe that I'm a 'new' fan that would love to see him in person! I'm not above begging either

Favorite Bertie Higgins song & why
I too am a new fan. I "rediscovered" Bertie's music recently when browsing iTunes and came across an old favorite "Key Largo." I remember that one from my college days. After listening to some of his other works, I think my new favorites are "Just Another Day in Paradise" and "Jamaica Me Crazy." I remember "Paradise" as a follow-up to "Key Largo, " but I liked it even better (even back then) because it seems so romantic and I love dreaming about the tropics! "Jamaica Me Crazy" has become one of my favorites lately because I love the upbeat tune and catchy lyrics!
Actually I am currently enjoying many of Bertie's songs from "The Ultimate Collection" and "Captiva." I am captivated by his romantic, sexy voice and would also love to see him in concert sometime, although it doesn't sound like that will happen anytime soon. Will just have to continue enjoying the albums and watching his videos on YouTube.
BTW: does anyone know if it is possible to legally download videos from YouTube for viewing on an iPod?

Hi Dana,
Yes - there is something about Bertie's music that is so romantic and sexy. As young girls I think we gravitate towards that and now - at least for me - I find that listening to his music takes me back to a time when romantic possibilities seemed endless. I've been married for 17 years to a man who is neither a pirate or a poet! LOL!! But then who is?
I'm not sure of the legalities -but think that most of these electronic mediums have defaults built in that won't let you play/downlaod unauthorized copies. i.e. I was trying to transfer music from my pc to my ipod and was stopped short by some of them. I think I had reached my max copies.
I'll stay tuned to this page and remain optimistic that Bertie decides to perform soon.
Best Regards,
Celeste

Hi Celeste,
Thanks so much for your reply. I feel the same way - listening to his music takes me back to that time as a young woman when I was searching for romance and the possibilities indeed seemed endless! I too have been married to a man for almost 19 years who is neither a pirate nor a poet (I'm laughing with you!) He's been a good sport about letting me indulge in my fantasies and yet he grounds me in reality!
I'll stay tuned with you for further updates on Bertie!
Take care,
Dana

Wish there could be a concert somewhere in the midwest. Florida is a little far for me. I last saw Bertie in Branson but one of the casinos in Kansas City or Oklahoma would be great. I would try to get to one ANYWHERE. I missed getting to Vegas last fall but sure would try. I don't think he reads this page very much so I sent him a note to read it, so we'll see. All we can do is hope.

Well - I'm located in Boston but would make an effort to catch him anywhere. Since I typically don't fly - east coast is ideal. Maybe we can convince him to do a casino tour?? Bertie - if you're reading this - WE ALL WANT TO SEE YOU!!

A casino tour might be nice...a smaller more intimate setting. There are several here in Minnesota and I think it's been awhile since he's been here. Would love to see you Bertie!
Also forgot to mention, another of my favorite songs is "The Breath of God." The music is so timeless and romantic that it's hard to pick just one!
